Truth about IQQU?

Note: I am not here to ruin anybody's reputation. This is merely an updated review about a product I have reviewed in the past, and everything is based on my experience. I have friends and family who wants to buy these products so I felt that I needed to go back again and re-review them. Please read everything first before you leave any negative comment. Thank you!

On my Skin Care Routine: http://withadriyah.blogspot.com/2011/01/skin-care-routine.html, I have mentioned some products that did not work for me. Almost everyone know that sometime last year, I have purchased and reviewed IQQU Products by Michelle Phan. Here is my Beauty Review for it: http://withadriyah.blogspot.com/2010/02/beauty-review-iqqu-acne-serum-and.html

Why am I touching this topic again? Or why am I reviewing a product I have reviewed in the past?

Because a lot of people I know (friends and some are even family) wants to purchase these products AND I have never told them NOT TO because I know people have different skin type and it might work for them. Who knows right? It could just have been me that broke out using these products.

I never did my research on these products before trying. I just trusted Michelle Phan and thought, "wow, she uses this! and she has gorgeous skin!" I know, it's not a good idea to just think that just because someone popular advertises a product, it's already good. I always have a disclaimer or note when reviewing products like "try this at your own risk because whatever works for me, might not work for you"

I never even thought about FDA regulations as I know FDA doesn't review cosmetics (or do they?). I'm not even sure if they review skin care? But I never knew that IQQU is under the drug category until I started reading this article about IQQU on the tumblr about Michelle Phan. No wonder it has an NDC (National Drug Code).

Michelle Phan advertised a sale on her IQQU products last November and somebody commented on her facebook about IQQU not FDA approved.

OKAY SO SHE CLAIMED IT AS US FDA APPROVED.

1-888-INFO-FDA (1-888-463-6332)
FDA confirmed that the only IQQU product that was reviewed by FDA is the ACNE SERUM and they labeled it as "not safe and effective"  the other IQQU products has not been reviewed. FDA stated that its FRAUD to claim that a product is US FDA approved when its not.
"If the product is not in the FDA approved list, then the results will state no matching records found just like the other IQQU products"

So, what its the truth about IQQU? Is it really safe to use? Would your risk using it knowing that US FDA labeled it as not safe & effective?

Michelle Phan recently claimed that she no longer own IQQU (but then deleted this comment afterwards). Now she changed what she said and is claiming that it is approved by FDA Asia? but complies in FDA US? It confuses me because in one of her statement, she was sure IT IS US FDA APPROVED!

image from michellephail.tumblr.com

It was deemed unsafe. You can read more information about IQQU Acne Serum here: http://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/drugInfo.cfm?id=34402

In my experience, IQQU does not have a great customer service as Ms. Phan claimed because they never answered my concerns about the mineral oil on their Jasmin Rice Product.

I don't question to why Ms. Phan is no longer the owner of IQQU. I question her for claiming that IQQU products are US FDA then changed her statement afterwards.

I hope this serves a lesson for all of us. Do more research when trying out a different product. Just because the owner is popular, or has "great skin" doesn't mean its a good product. Please do your research.

To everyone, there you have it, please consider all the PROS and CONS of a product before trying it.

Note: This is about IQQU products and not about Michelle Phan. There is no way I'm trying to "trash talk" this guru. Every screened capped pictures above were from her facebook. The only topic I'm touching is the IQQU products as I have bought, used those products and had my own experience with it.

  1. i have a friend who thought the same and went on to buy some rice scrub or something and she also told me that their costumer service sucked -_-'
in the end, the scrub broke her out :(
and you are right, everyone's skin is different. i'm vigilant about that kind of thing because i'm acne prone :(

  2. Sounds horrible! I thought more highly of Michelle Phan than this! I can't believe the statements that she makes. But I still love her videos and tutorials =)

I'm sorry to hear that this broke you out!! I agree with you on that, don't buy products just because someone popular uses it.

  3. *big hugs* Thank you for your courage to post this. I hope your scars heal soon...

I wonder why she just didn't say that she didn't know if iqqu was FDA approved? Then she could have avoided this!

  4. wow insane stuff! it's so confusing all of it o_O

  5. This is a VERY good and informative post, thanks! <3

  6. Iyah, I salute you for doing this post! I have nothing against MP, but i think it would have been better if she knew her facts well before responding to the query. It just made her look worse when she changed her statement from US FDA approved to FDA Asia and complies with US FDA.

Im sorry the product broke you out, i read on twitter you have scars to remind you of it. are you still trying to get rid of the scars? what kind of scars are they? pigmented or crater-ish? :|

  7. Thank you for this post, I was also one of those tempted to buy her prods cause she has "good skin" i now know better..

  8. Thanks for having the courage to speak up and share your thoughts on this. I think it's important for people to have the facts before making a purchase decision, especially when it comes to health and safety.

I don't think this should be taken personally at all, by anyone. The way you presented yourself was professional and factual...you definitely seem to have done your research!

Keep up the good work :)

  9. So not all her products are FDA approve? I don't know... BB creams aren't US approve either, I don't think and a lot of people use it. You just have to be careful with the products you use. I honestly trusted her as the CEO of the iQQU and really wanted to try out her products but there wasn't much information on there and it does seem as if customer service suck. Maybe they don't have enough employees? I will never know...

  10. you go baby ko!!! set that liar straight!!! when people can't decide on a final lie or reveal the TRUTH they start to speak in circles and then delete stuff! I'm glad you're putting the word out so that everyone knows and can keep this knowledge in their minds.. this is why I love you! you stand up for what you believe in! haahahaha Michelle phail :P

  11. Wow, this was a very fascinating read. I've never tried iQQU, but I do remember reading your posts about your experiences with the brand. It's interesting that at first Michelle Phan said that she tries not to get involved in those debates, since she doesn't OWN iQQU, but if she's still the co-founder and CEO, as another FB response claimed.. I think it makes sense for iQQU's potential customers to be able to request more information from her, since she was advertising a sale of their products.. It's SUPER fishy that she changed her statement about whether the productS (big S) are approved by the USFDA or just compliant with the USFDA regulations.. Thanks tons for posting this, I would have never learned about it otherwise!

  12. Thanks so much for this post. I have not bought any Iqqu products or do I want to anymore. I hope your scars heal in time. :)

  13. I am proud of you Iyah for making this post! Consumers have the right to know if her products are FDA Approved or not as well as if it's safe to use. Now on I will be doing research on products that I'm not familiar with.

  14. super props to you Iyah for this post! im so glad that i never gave into the hype of her products. it was actually your blog post that persuaded me not to!

I hope a lot of fans will think twice before they buy her stuff.

  15. It's seems very strange how she sidesteps questions. You'd think that any CEO or anyone who promotes a product/company will want to be straight up with customers' questions and concerns. :/

Oh well. I can't use any of their products anyways since I have darker skin. :/

  16. Dangggg lost some more respect for Michelle there.. not sure I have any left haha. I'm taking a break from school work and your post caught my eye! I've always been skeptical of IQQU just because it's a new company and I just don't trust smaller companies that JUST newly form. IQQU prices used to be higher and I thought, why would I pay more for new products that haven't been established? I'd rather put my money into products that have been around for decades =). Besides I always kept in mind Phan's skin has always been great.. so it's not due to IQQU products, it's genetics end of story.

I think this is awesome of you Iyah. Definitely not a personal post, you made it very objective. Round of applause for caring to share~ ^^

  17. Wow if you hadn't brought this up, I would have never known so thank you for sharing!

  18. Wow, this is really interesting. Thanks for doing this post. It is important to do research before buying or trying out beauty products.

  19. OMG!!! That's horrible! Go to :

    gurugossip.com/michelle phan

Search for the section of the FDA stuff for iQQU and post it there. Melu reported Michelle and now anyone who's been hurt by iQQU needs to step up and report Michelle through the FDA.

I am so glad that you stopped using iQQU and are letting other people know about this harmful line. It's maybe a handful of people having bad reactions to a product but when it's more like so many out of control claims of people saying they had a terrible reaction to iQQU is something totally else.

Iyah, you should definitely report your bad reaction to the FDA. If there are more people who are brave enough to report Michelle the FDA will do something more quickly about it.

Take care and hope your scars heal!!!

  23. Wow Iyah, I'm so glad you shared your story but even more than that...all the circles claiming it to be FDA approved! That's definitely very sketchy, and you're showing great courage to let everyone know to be careful. *hugs*

  28. She's a horrible business woman. Obviously, she lacks professionalism and does not do her research. Idiot.

  29. Big big hugs for you, Iyah! Thank you for sharing and this really helped out a lot. A lot of ladies out there actually wanted to try IQQU products and this is an eye opener...we really need to be very carefully in using beauty products, and as a consumer it is our duty to do some research on the product before purchasing it.

  30. Thanks Iyah for being soo informative! I really appreciated. I, too, was a victim of IQQU products. My face broke out for months! I hope anyone who reads this posting will pass it on to his/her families and friends to stay away from IQQU products and not the trust gurus like Michelle Phan but do the research before buying any products! Thanks again Iyah, you're the best!

  31. Wow thanks for this! I thought Michelle owned the company. It's a shame cuz I just found out about the bad things about Lime Crime, now this.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow! thanks for sharing this! no wonder why she doesn't promote Iqqu anymore! There is a reason why she left the company but its bizarre when she tried soo hard to promote it! I was kinda interested in the products, but not to the point to get it! thanks again.

  33. wow thanks for the info <3 must've been so confusing trying to figure out the real deal. this just tells us all to be more careful and not trust just anyone. i'm really glad you posted this up, really helped a lot!

  34. wow. thanks for sharing your experience and putting her on blast. i've heard alot of shady things about michelle phan even though i was always such a fan of hers. its unfortunate what fame and money can do to people

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thank you for revisiting this Iyah!! I haven't really been keeping up with the whole iQQU/Michelle Phan topic since I wrote my last review. But after reading this, I'm even more disappointed and frankly, disgusted with the way this situation has been handled. It's just sad to think that we, the unknowing consumers, were literally the guinea pigs for her product line...which she pushed so much for and now doesn't even own?! Oh goodness. Well at least now people will know the truth behind iQQU >:/

  36. I'm gonna keep it short:

"Michelle Phan is full of shit and she'll do anything to make a buck."

She's sponsored by Lancôme who's mostly known for their wide use of ANIMAL TESTING, yet she still has the guts to donate to animal beneficial charity. Please, that's just low and incredibly contradicting to what she claims to stand for.

I bet she only got rid of IQQU because people were asking too many questions.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i remember you tweeting about this! it doesn't matter ifshe's still the owner or not, the fact that she claimed it was FDA approved when it's not is just wrong! i hate youtube gurus who sell out like this just to make a quick buck but act mean towards their followers when they wanna know questions! now i know definitely NOT to buy everything gurus recommend just because they're popular!

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is a very helpful blog post! Probably the most in depth I've ever read about the IQQU product. Thank you!

  39. Hi lyah, thank you for posting this second review, your first review a year ago saved my cousin's skin because she bought the acne syrum then saw how it did to you, she contacted Michelle to return it but she didn't answer then blocked her. My cousin threw it away.

I hope you will help ppl by stepping one more step forward to report iQQU all the way through, just like how Melu gave all the information how and who to contact.
Michelle won't stop lying until someone remind her by throwing a dirty diaper to her face.

  40. Approved in "FDA Asia?" Umm... there is no FDA that regulates the entire continent of Asia... LMAO... every country has it's own laws and regulations... Seems like this Michelle Phan will say anything people want to hear, even if it just isn't true. What a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I never believed any of the stuff that the people on gurugossip said, they were jealous of MP, I thought they were lying about the iqqu stuff so i looked it up myself. And its true...and it makes me wonder if they were telling the truth

    ReplyDelete
  42. HEEEY! its hilarious that she referred to ASIA and USA as both countries. LMFAO! since when is ASIA a country and since when was there an FDA Asia??? from what I know since we started celebrating UN Day in school (nursery??) Asia is a continent. get some education Rice Bunny. Funny shit. HAHAH

    ReplyDelete
  43. YOU TELL HER! i can't believe she would lie so blatantly about that >:[

    ReplyDelete
  44. IQQU is not FDA approved, nor is it shipped from within the US. I have ordered a couple IQQU products and each time, I received an automated email from the company (under Michelle Phan's name, in broken English -- how odd!) saying something along the lines of, "I ran out of stock in the United States, so your order will be shipped from Thailand."

    Lies, lies, lies...
